.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Friday night...Clear and mild tonight into Thursday as the region remains under a sharp upper ridge. An area of deep moisture will get drawn northward through the Great Basin Thursday, edging into our region late Thur/Fri. Initially it will result in increased cloud cover Thursday night and Friday with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms (10-15%) across SE Oregon (Harney and southern Malheur counties) and the ID/NV border on Friday. Thursday will likely be the hottest day with temperatures around 10 degrees above normal as lower elevations reach the mid-upper 80s. Friday remains warm, but cloud cover will take a couple of degrees off Thursday`s heat
.LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday...Remains warm and mostly dry on Saturday with low precipitation chances across SE Oregon and the ID/NV border area, similar to Friday. A trough enters the Pac NW on Sunday, and models have trended further south and are presenting a stronger solution. The best chance of precipitation remains across e-central Oregon and the w-central ID mtns Sunday/Sunday night. Given the trend in the 12Z deterministic solutions, wouldn`t be surprised if the numbers increase in the ensemble solution across northern zones for this period. The passing trough will take about 5 degrees off temperatures for Sun/Mon, bringing them back closer to normal. Good confidence in an upper ridge building into the area for Tue/Wed with Tuesday showing a 20-35% chance of topping 90 degrees across the lower Snake Plain. Another trough could enter the picture late Wednesday.
