Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 110 AM EDT Sat Sep 27 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds back into the area through the weekend and early next week with dry weather and warm temperatures. A cold front moves through late Monday and Tuesday, allowing for much cooler and continued dry weather for midweek with potential frost.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... A weak cold front slides through by early morning, stalling across southern New England today. The front only knocks temps back by a few degrees across the north with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Elsewhere, 70s are expected again today under mainly sunny skies. High pressure moves in behind the front today, allowing for an afternoon sea breeze to develop along the coast.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/... The stalled front lifts northward overnight tonight as a warm front. The front brings more cloud cover through the overnight, keeping lows on the mild side for this time of year. Lows range from the low 50s to near 60 in most spots overnight, with a few spots dipping into the 40s across the northern valleys. Valley fog is likely to develop again tonight as moisture increases on a southerly flow.

Temps climb under mostly sunny skies tomorrow as a southwesterly flow brings warmer air back to northern New England. Mid to upper 70s are expected across the north, while low 80s are expected elsewhere. A seabreeze keeps the MidCoast in the 70s, but even the southern coastlines are expected to warm into the low 80s with an offshore flow most of the day. A weak cold front crosses through late in the afternoon and evening, but brings little more than a wind shift to west- northwesterly by the evening hours.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... Early morning long term update...The 01z NBM has been incorporated into the forecast and continues to be in reasonable agreement with the previous forecast and other ensembles and deterministics. The bottom line: continued dry with no PoPs in the forecast. Warmer than normal temperatures are expected Monday and Tuesday before a cold front brings highs down into the 60s Wed through the end of the week. Good radiational cooling conditions Wed night and Thu night may allow for several locations receiving a frost.

Previously...

Overview: Dry weather conditions will persist through much of next week as strong high pressure builds over New England. Above average temperatures are expected Sunday through Tuesday before a cold front brings cooler temperatures for the later half of the week.

Impacts: No significant weather related impacts are expected other than continued drought conditions.

Forecast Details: A weak sfc warm front will lift northward across northern New England on Sunday morning, placing the region into the warm sector with highs reaching the lower to perhaps middle 80s south of the mtns. A few spots could potentially approach daily records. Skies will be mainly sunny with southwesterly flow. Radiational cooling will allow lows to bottom out into the lower 40s across some interior valleys with 50s in most other locations. Another warm day is expected on Monday with high pressure remaining in control with highs into the upper 70s/lower 80s for most locations and lows into the 40s and 50s. One more well above avg day is then likely on Tuesday with highs into the middle to upper 70s and mostly sunny skies prevailing.

Cooler temperatures will begin to return Tuesday night with lows into the 30s across the north with lower to middle 40s south. Despite a plethora of sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday, high temperatures will be closer to seasonable averages with highs into the 60s and lows into the 30s. This will bring our next potential for perhaps a widespread frost or freeze.

&&

.AVIATION /01Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Short Term...VFR prevails during the daytime at all terminals. Valley fog is likely each night at LEB and HIE, and is also possible at CON and AUG.

Long Term...Other than nighttime valley FG at KLEB, KHIE, and KCON mainly VFR conditions will prevail through mid next week with winds less than 20 kts.

&&

.MARINE... Short Term...Conditions remain below SCA levels as high pressure remains in place across the waters. A weak cold front stalls south of the waters this morning, and then moves through as a warm front tonight.

Long Term...High pressure will keep winds and seas below SCA criteria through early next week. SCA conditions are then possible Wed and Thu behind a cold front. Long period swells are also likely to increase late week from distant tropical systems.
