...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM... (Rest of Today and Tonight) Issued at 226 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Overall, there have been no significant changes to forecast reasoning for the near term period since the update earlier this morning. A gradual increase in the coverage of generally thin/translucent cirroform clouds is anticipated to continue this afternoon and overnight, related to strengthening diffluent flow aloft to our west (between a weak mid-level trough currently dropping into the Lower MS Valley and a convectively-induced vort max across eastern KS/western MO). However, this should have no impact on highs temperatures this afternoon as surface observations indicate readings in the u70s-l80s. Overnight lows will indeed be a bit warmer compared to last night (m50s-l60s), but this will largely be due to a subtle increase in boundary layer dewpoints today. With a light easterly breeze predicted to continue for much of the overnight period, any brief development of patchy mist/fog should be confined to sheltered valleys.

.SHORT TERM... (Tuesday through Wednesday) Issued at 1030 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

A shortwave from a departing upper trough over the Midwest and Great Lakes regions looks to move over the Tennessee and Ohio valleys Tuesday and into midweek, but upper ridging will build quickly behind it over the Mississippi River Valley for later in the week. This shortwave feature may bring some cloud cover to the region Tuesday morning and into the afternoon, but no appreciable moisture is anticipated with it. Meanwhile, surface high pressure will largely remain dominant through at least midweek. Although the aforementioned high spanning from the northeast down into the ArkLaTex shifts east a bit, another high pressure will quickly dive down over the eastern US from Wednesday into Thursday. Overall, the days without rain will continue through midweek (and beyond, but please see the discussion below for long term details). The main story through midweek will be an upward trend in temperatures. Highs are forecast to increase into the mid to upper 80s by Wednesday, with lows in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees for most locations; although, northeast Alabama and portions of southern middle Tennessee will be slightly cooler. The good news is, with dew points in the 50s/60s, it will not be as humid!

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday Night through Sunday) Issued at 1047 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

The upper high/ridge will continue to push east toward the late- week period and will keep temperatures on the rise as we head into the weekend. The moisture-rich airmass will remain to our south so the dry forecast will persist, but the summer heat is not quite done with us yet. In fact, temps will approach the mid 90s in western locations by Friday as the H85 high becomes more centered over the eastern CONUS. The good news is that with dewpoints limited to the 50s and lower 60s, heat indices will remain below the 100 degree mark so we do not anticipate any heat related headlines at this time.
