Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service New Orleans LA 235 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday night) Issued at 114 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

High pressure with slightly cooler temperatures and a much drier air mass has pushed through the area with the associated front lying just offshore across Gulf waters. It is still September, so temperatures in the upper 80s to 90 are not unexpected. However, the air is dry enough that RH will fall into the 40-50% range during the day tomorrow on the northshore. The low temps tonight will be in the low 60s along and north of the I-10/12 corridor and in the low 70 south; and for tomorrow night in the upper 60s and mid 70s. It will be breezy with winds out of the north to northeast up to 10-12 mph.

.LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Saturday night) Issued at 114 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

Through the workweek, we can expect to see generally the same conditions as we have in the short term. High pressure will continue to dominate the area generally through the weekend bringing seasonable daytime temperatures around 90 and overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s, but relatively dry air. There does appear to be a bit of moisture return during the day on Tuesday with PoPs around 40% along the coast and decreasing inland, so can`t rule out a shower or thunderstorm. Generally, winds will be northeasterly to easterly.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1227 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

With a very benign pattern dominated by dry air behind a frontal boundary, all terminals are VFR and are expected to remain so for the duration of the period. The only concern of note, and not a big one, is the possibility of winds gusting from 15-20kt in the early morning hours between midnight and 6am. /DSS/

.MARINE... Issued at 114 PM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025

Stationary front just offshore has winds out of the north to northeast and they will build overnight requiring Small Craft Exercise Caution headlines and a Small Craft Advisory through tomorrow morning before decreasing. Exercise Caution headline may be needed tomorrow afternoon as the winds subside. Through the workweek can expect a transition to more easterly direction and primary waveheights from 2-4 feet.
