Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1240 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Surface high pressure will allow for dry conditions with cooler than normal night time lows and comfortable humidity during the daytime.

- Temperatures will warm from the middle to latter part of the week as surface high pressure weakens and winds become more from the east and southeast.

- An upper level high will build over the region late in the week keeping rain chances out of the forecast.

.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Wednesday night) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Surface high pressure ridging down from the eastern Great Lakes and keeping a northeast flow over the forecast area bringing dry continental air in. This is allowing for sunny skies and low humidity with below normal temperatures that will continue into Tuesday. Low temperatures tonight are pretty consistent on guidance and very little spread in the ensemble plots that show readings by Tuesday morning will be some 10F degrees below climo norms.

Some moderation in temperatures are expected on Wednesday as the surface high from the northeast weakens and moves to the east.

Only rain chances look to be tomorrow afternoon over the lower Atchafalaya Basin with a weak easterly wave, and then on Wednesday afternoon near the coast with return flow moisture and the seabreeze. Otherwise, drier air aloft will keep most of the area rain free.

.LONG TERM... (Thursday through next Sunday) Issued at 1230 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Temperatures and humidity will rebound during this period as surface flow becomes more east and southeast bringing conditions back to typical late summertime. An upper level ridge will build in from Texas and this will keep dry and subsident air over the region keeping any significant shower activity very limited at best.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1228 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

High pressure at the surface and aloft will persist during the period bringing stable and dry conditions. Modest northeast flow will become light after sunset into Tuesday. Very little cloud cover and no significant shower activity is expected and VFR conditions will occur during the period.

.MARINE... Issued at 1225 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

High pressure ridging down from the northeast will allow for a modest northeast flow into Tuesday, with relatively low seas. This system will be replaced during the mid week by a weak high pressure system along the Gulf coast that will provide a light to modest easterly flow. Rain chances will be limited due to drier air aloft.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1222 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Dry weather continue as high pressure at both the surface and aloft will persist over the region for the next few days. There will be little to no chance of any significant rain with afternoon minimum relative humidity values between 40 and 50 percent.
