.NEAR TERM... (Rest of today and tonight) Issued at 1253 PM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

Mid-level heights will increase gradually today as a ridge slowly moves in from the west. We will begin to see increasing high temperatures through the week and into the weekend as the aforementioned ridge moves in from the west and stay overhead. Afternoon highs today will get up into the mid 80s to low 90s across the whole area. Strong to severe storms are expected to form along the southern Rockies this afternoon and push towards the east. These storms may make it into our far western counties this evening, although they will likely be on a downward trend. Given the environment ahead of these storms however, a few storms may produce strong to severe wind gusts and large hail.

Mostly clear skies tonight will help overnight lows dip down into the low to mid 60s with a light southerly breeze. Any storm activity will continue to diminish into the night as they move eastward.

.SHORT TERM... (Wednesday through Thursday night) Issued at 1253 PM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

The aforementioned ridge will continue to build over our area through the middle of the week. This will help to bolster the warming trend to above average temperatures across the area. Afternoon highs will generally be in the upper 80s to low 90s across the area with overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s. A mid-level shortwave digging through the ridge on Wednesday morning could produce a few weak elevated thunderstorms transitioning to rain showers early Wednesday morning across northwest Oklahoma.

.LONG TERM... (Friday through Monday) Issued at 145 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

Slightly warmer than average temperatures will persist into early next week with highs generally in the lower to mid 90s. Although the Southern Plains stays under weak ridging, a deep amplitude trough over the entire Western U.S. will gradually transition eastward reaching the Southern High Plains by Saturday. A series of shortwave disturbances flowing downstream of the trough will bring low rain/storm chances back into our area for this weekend. The rain/storm chances will be restricted to western Oklahoma and parts of western north Texas on Saturday then expanding into all of central Oklahoma on Sunday.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1222 PM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period. Low chances for showers and storms will be focused across northwest Oklahoma tonight, potentially impacting KWWR after midnight. Otherwise, scattered high clouds and south to southeast winds are expected through tomorrow.
