&& .DISCUSSION... (This afternoon through next Friday)

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A break in weather this afternoon as drier conditions dominate the region, however there is still a less than 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms in central Nevada from Tonopah to Ely along US Highway 6 corridor. Saturday, sunny conditions expected to continue with some cloud development during the day. Temperatures expected in the 70s to 80s for central Nevada, with warmer temperatures in the 80s across northern Nevada. By late Saturday into Sunday, another round of active weather from the low pressure system over Arizona, will push more moisture into the region. Chances for some showers over Northeastern Nye and White Pine Counties, gradually increase from 20%, up to 50% in the early morning hours. By Sunday, moisture will be more widespread, reaching into the rest of central Nevada and Elko County, with chances for showers up to 30-45%. Thunderstorm chances increase up to 30% with the strongest chances along US-50 Corridor. Highs expected to be cooler along the storm front with temperatures in the 70s over central Nevada and Elko County, while Humboldt county expected to stay in the 80s (White Pine County expected to be cooler in the 60s).

Monday, models show greater confidence that a low pressure system over the Gulf of Alaska will move over the northwestern U.S. extending into the southwestern states. This system will collide with the already lingering moisture over Nevada and bring even more moisture along with cooler temperatures. Chances for showers Monday at 50-75% across the region with the greatest chances in Lander, Eureka, and Elko Counties. Northern Nye County seeing up to 60% chance except for the southern portion including Tonopah, only seeing a 30% chance for showers. Thunderstorms activity is also expected with this storm front, having a 20-30% chance for thunderstorms, strongest chances in central Nevada between US-50 and I-80 corridor, and US-93 in Elko County. Shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to last through Monday, into Tuesday, where the activity will dissipate by mid-day. Cooler temperatures makes its way from the storm front with highs in the 60s and 70s Monday, dropping into the 60s Tuesday.

Wednesday, drier air returns with a southwesterly flow over the silver state, giving a break in the weather. Temperatures are expected to stay cool in the 60s. Starting Thursday, models are showing discrepancies with the potential of another round of weather with some models showing a low pressure system staying more over Canada, while others are showing the low extends towards the southwest. Confidence on the next round remains low at this time.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Moderate confidence of thunderstorms and showers over central Nevada this afternoon. Moderate to high confidence of showers and thunderstorms Sunday followed by a stronger front Monday and Tuesday. High confidence the weather dries out Wednesday. No changes to the grids at this time.
