.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Issued at 346 PM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025
The main concern in the short term will be the showers and thunderstorms through the evening hours. Moisture transport has been fairly efficient within the heavy bands of rain that have set up across southwest Nebraska. So far amounts of around 2 to 4 inches of rainfall have fallen within the narrow bands of heavy rainfall. Have started to see dry air moving in from the north and a secondary band of heavy rainfall developing across far southwestern Nebraska, thus current thinking is the original band of heavy rainfall, generally along the I-80 corridor will begin to decrease as the southern band becomes the dominate band and the dry air overspreads. This will also help to shift the rainfall southward, with eventually rainfall moving south and out of the area by late evening, with rain ending for the CWA by midnight. Could see additional rainfall amounts around 0.5 to 1 inch across heavier rain bands. Could still see some minor flooding in low-lying areas the remainder of this afternoon and evening, within the heaviest rainfall bands.
After the rain moves out of the area tonight, drier conditions expected for Wednesday with highs reaching the low 70s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... Issued at 346 PM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025
An upper level ridge builds in across the western CONUS that will start to moderate temperatures through the week. Highs will reach the 80s by Friday, which is around 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. A front will push through late Friday, bringing cooler temperatures on Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1237 PM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025
Moderate to heavy rainfall showers, including some embedded thunderstorms will continue into the afternoon hours. The heaviest rainfall/thunderstorms will generally be across southwest Nebraska, along and south of interstate 80, including KLBF terminal. Lower cigs and lower visibilities will be possible within this area where MVFR or potentially lower conditions may exist through the afternoon. Should see showers and thunderstorms start to move southward by evening, with ceilings starting to lift thorugh the evening hours and return to VFR conditions. Winds will be out of the northeast this afternoon around 10 to 15 kts with gustier winds across southwest Nebraska where wind gust up to 25 kts may be possible through the afternoon. Winds will shift to the north and be around 5 kts through the overnight and Wednesday morning.
