.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Sunday night) Issued at 1132 PM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
A trough, currently spinning over the Southwestern US, is expected to stay nearly stationary over the region through Saturday before beginning to lift on Sunday. Most, if not all, of the convection associated with this system is expected to stay west of the Panhandles, but there is around a 10-20% chance for a dissipating shower or thunderstorm to move into the far southwestern Panhandles Saturday and Saturday night.
A surface low will develop in the northern High Plains on Sunday which will result in the surface pressure gradient steepening in the northwestern Panhandles, resulting in breezy winds. Mid to high- based clouds will move into the Panhandles throughout the day causing temperatures to be cooler than Saturday, especially in the western Panhandles.

.LONG TERM... (Monday through next Friday) Issued at 1132 PM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
An upper-level trough should be imposing upon the Panhandles by the beginning of this long-term period with a developing secondary surface low in southeastern Colorado. Expecting clouds to become more prevalent across the Panhandles on Monday with temperatures to be widespread in the 70s to low-80s. Lobes of vorticity associated with the shortwave are favored to move into the Panhandles throughout the day which has a very low (5-10%) chance to result in some showers in what is currently anticipated to be a fairly stable or very weakly unstable environment.
The area will be on the backside of the trough on Tuesday. With a sunny sky anticipated, temperatures will warm back into the 80s across the Panhandles.
An upper-level trough is favored to move into the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday which results in a ridge building over the Central US which should persist through the remainder of the long-range period. Highs in the 80s to low-90s can be expected with less than a 5% chance for precipitation.
