.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build in from the west tonight and slide south of
the region on Monday. A cold front will cross the area Monday night.
High pressure will build down from the north Tuesday into
Wednesday, crest west of the region on Thursday, then continue
to the south on Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
730 PM Update:
Water vapor satellite imagery shows an exiting shortwave
northeast of the area this evening and another well defined
shortwave across far northeastern Manitoba moving into northern
Ontario and the southern shore of the Hudson Bay. This shortwave
is more amplified than model guidance initially predicted, and
guidance is beginning to catch on to more lift and isolated to
scattered shower potential with the frontal passage across
northern Maine late Monday afternoon into Monday evening.
Adjusted PoPs, Sky, QPF, and Winds to match the latest trends.
Previous Discussion:
High pressure to our southwest tonight will bring a light
westerly flow across the area resulting in lows a few degrees
above normal under a clear sky. The light westerly breeze will
probably prevent much fog from forming.
High pressure will continue to the south on Monday allowing a warm
westerly return flow to boost temperatures from near 70 over the far
north to the mid to upper 70s Downeast. The day will be sunny. Some
clouds may begin to push into far northern areas late ahead of
a cold front dropping down from the north.
Meanwhile, a steepening ridge over central Canada will support
strengthening high pressure over Hudson Bay. This high will push a
cold front into the north late Monday then on through the rest of
the region Monday night. The upper levels have trended slightly
more favorable for isolated showers across northern Maine,
mainly during the evening hours with the frontal passage.
Showers may be accompanied by briefly gustier winds given an
inverted V temperature and dew point profile over the low
levels. Minimal rain accumulation is expected for areas that
receive showers. Colder air will begin filtering into the north
overnight Monday night when lows will drop to near 40 in the far
north while Downeast will be milder with lows in the low 50s.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Sfc high pressure will be building south out of Ontario Canada on
Tuesday with CWA on eastern periphery with well-mixed northwest
winds during the day. Cold air advection will drop H8 temps blo 0C
over the north with highs below normal over nrn areas and above
normal across the south. Stratocu appears likely over nrn areas in
the afternoon with dewpoints down into the 30s for most of the area.
This will lead to RH values between 30-40% over central and southern
areas where temps look to remain in the u60/nr 70.
For Tuesday night winds should stay elevated with center of high
pressure along the Ontario/Quebec border. Upr lvl trof will be
crossing the north overnight bringing pcldy skies to nrn Aroostook.
Although H8 temps will approach -5C, most locations will remain in
the u30s preventing much in the way of frost. The most likely area
to see frost will be in the North Woods.
Upr trof and compact s/wv will reinforce cold air and cloudy skies
acrs the north for Wednesday as a back door cold front moves
through. NW winds will continue to gust to between 20-25 mph in the
afternoon but highs will struggle to climb into the mid-50s acrs the
north and lwr-mid 60s over the south. As upr wv and best forcing
retrograde back twd the area cannot rule out a stray shower over the
northeast in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Wednesday night will see the area just to the east of center
of high pressure. Clear skies and diminishing winds looks to
result in almost ideal radn/l cooling conditions with mins in
the 20s for areas north of Bangor and low-mid 30s elsewhere.
Coastal areas and outer islands may remain in the 40s.
Widespread frost can be expected for areas to the north of a
Bangor to Topsfield line at this time, but this will depend on
how quickly ridge crests over the region. By Thursday morning,
all areas north of the Bangor Region and Interior Downeast will
have ended their growing season with frost/freeze headlines only
active for the southern third of the CWA.
High pressure will build offshore on Thursday with main storm track
well to our north into next weekend. Temperatures will moderate on
backside of high with no rain in sight.

.AVIATION /00Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
NEAR TERM:
VFR. Light W winds tonight, increasing to around 10kt with gusts
up to 20 kt from mid to late morning to around sunset, then
becoming light Monday night and eventually shifting NW with a
frontal passage from N to S. Isolated showers are possible at
northern Aroostook terminals along with locally gustier winds
and turbulence in virga and showers.
Marginal LLWS is possible tonight across Aroostook County
terminals.
SHORT TERM:
Tuesday-Wednesday...Mainly VFR. MVFR cigs possible over northern
Aroostook terminals each afternoon in low stratocu. NW 5-15kts,
gusting 20-25kts in the afternoon.
Wednesday night-Thursday...VFR. NNW 5-10kts.

.MARINE...
NEAR TERM:
Wind and seas will be below SCA tonight, Monday and Monday
night. Long period swell from Hurricane Humberto will gradually
build to around 4 ft by Tuesday morning.
SHORT TERM: Long period serly swell from Humberto will bring seas to
5ft Tuesday evening, increasing to between 5 to 8ft Wednesday night.
Periods look to range from 12 to 17 sec through the day on
Thursday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Some fire weather concerns early this week on Monday and
Tuesday. Winds will be breezy at about 10 to 15 mph with gusts
up to 20 mph in combination with RH values at a minimum of
around 35 to 45 percent. RH increases on Wednesday then
decreases again late week.
