Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Caribou ME 246 PM EDT Sat Sep 20 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds in through Saturday night and exits to the east Sunday night and Monday. A cold front crosses the area Tuesday. High pressure builds in Wednesday and Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/... Breezy NW flow continues today across the region as a pressure gradient remains ahead of the approaching high to our west. Strong subsidence associated with the high pressure is leading to clear skies across the area. Tonight, the high becomes centered over us and the relaxed pressure gradient should lead to calm winds. In combination with clear skies, this should lead to strong radiational cooling overnight with many areas in northern and central Maine expected to be at or below freezing. Areas farther south are likely to get down to the low to mid 30s. Thus have issued a Freeze Warning for areas in and north of the Central Highlands, Upper Penobscot Valley, and northern Washington county. Also issued a frost advisory for the Bangor and Downeast regions. Have the greatest confidence in sub- freezing temperatures in the North Woods and Aroostook county while areas in northern Washington county will likely hover around 32. Additionally, those areas in valleys will likely see some of the coldest temperatures. Some patchy fog is also expected in the river valleys, but this may be less in areal extent than is typical due to the extensive dry air.

On Sunday, high pressure remains in place with sunny skies early and a few clouds working in during the afternoon. Temperatures will also recover to the mid to upper 60s. On Sunday night, some clouds will prevent strong radiational cooling which should keep temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Patchy valley fog is also possible especially in those areas with the least cloud cover.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... SW aloft will build the upr ridge over the area on Monday before beginning to flatten during the afternoon. Temps will warm into the 70s over inland areas, which is still above normal over nrn zones. Showers should just begin to enter CWA after 21z with.

Surface warm front lifts north of the area Monday evening with lopres riding along boundary. Most of guidance keeps showers confined to nrn areas Monday night before front begins to creep south into the region Tuesday afternoon. Latest probabilities are showing 30-45% across the north for 0.25" of 24-hr precip through the end of the period, with
