Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 620 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

...New AVIATION...

.DISCUSSION... Issued at 248 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Today and Tonight...Troughing aloft, with its axis east of the Lower Mississippi River Valley, encompasses nearly the entire eastern half of the United States. The resulting northwest flow aloft across the region and northeast surface winds circulating around a surface high centered over the Great Lakes region, will continue to promote a drier airmass and below normal conditions across the forecast area today into tonight. Dew points this afternoon will mix into the upper 40s to upper 50s across the area, as highs top out in the low to middle 80s under mostly sunny skies. Another very pleasant late summer evening is then on tap as lows range from the middle 50s to middle 60s tonight. /19/

Tuesday through the Weekend...At the risk of sounding like a broken record on repeat, the remainder of the extended period will remain generally quiet Tuesday through Thursday. Global guidance continues to show mid/upper level troughing beginning to slowly slide east across the area through Thursday evening. This will allow for ridging aloft to gradually build into the region from the west. Regarding the rain chances, portions of southeast MS could see a slight chance of scattered showers by Tuesday afternoon, with afternoon PoPs between 15-25%. Ridging aloft will continue across our CWA Friday with afternoon highs peaking into the low 90s areawide. Quiet conditions will persist through the weekend. /CR/
