A hard to define upper pattern was in place over the North
American domain. Upper troughing was noted over the western
states, courtesy of an upper low off of the Pacific-NW coast.
Mean upper heights were in place over the SE, partially from the
remnants of east coast troughing and the presence of Hurricane
Humberto and Tropical Storm Imeda.
Earlier daytime heating helped to raise area high temperatures
from the lower 80s higher elevations to mid/upper 80s elsewhere.
The heating and resultant instability, along with a passing weak
upper system helped isolated showers to develop in the late
afternoon. As of this issuance, a few light showers were slowly
fading over northern Georgia, which were tracking to the SW at
10-15 mph. Otherwise, no weather of consequence was occurring over
and near the Tennessee Valley. Unless one of the aformentioned
showers over northern Georgia survives the trip to NE Alabama,
dry weather is expected. Night time lows with longer early autumn
nights should fall into the upper 50s sheltered valley locations
to the mid 60s near large bodies of water with light winds. The
development of patchy late night fog is possible, especially
in/near sheltered valleys.
Another very warm early fall day is expected Tuesday and the last
day of September. High temperatures should rise into the 80s
(low/mid 80s east mid/upper 80s east) with light NE winds. Normal
highs this time of year are around 82 degrees for reference.

The above mentioned tropical systems for the next several days
should continue on a northward path. These systems will help
deepen mid/upper level troughing, this time further to the east
off of the east coast. Upper level ridging should return over the
eastern CONUS for the mid week.
With higher heights from ridging and a continuation of mostly
sunny skies, daily high/low temperatures for the Tue/Wed/Thu
timeframe should range from around 80/lower 80s higher elevations
and east, to mid/upper 80s west. Lows will range mainly in the
lower 60s. No precipitation is expected into Thursday, which will
enhance an on-going dryspell much of the area is going through.

The late week period will shape up to be pretty nice as high pressure
centered over the Northeast continues to enforce a dry and cooler
airmass down into the Tennessee Valley. The upper ridge will slowly
meander to the east toward the later half of the weekend and there is
some evidence of a shortwave disturbance preceding an upper trough
that may bring chances for showers and storms on Sunday. This
appears to be an outlier for now, but will need to monitor trends as
we get to the later part of the week. We will maintain a dry forecast
through Monday with highs in the upper 70s/mid 80s each afternoon and
lows in the mid 50s to mid 60s.

VFR weather is forecast for the TAF. That said, longer early fall
nights could allow late night, patchy fog to form. Most of the
guidance remained fog free so did not include it in the forecast.
Light winds overnight should increase to 4-8kt from the NE.
Greater moisture could result in scattered VFR clouds this
afternoon, more so over the KHSV terminal and to the east. Shower
activity in this moisture should remain east of KMSL and KHSV.
Any showers that form should dissipate around sunset, with winds
become light and variable in the evening.
