.DISCUSSION... Issued at 318 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
Upper level ridging over the plains through Saturday will gradually shift eastward as a weak upper low over the Desert Southwest moves eastward and weakens. Individual weak upper level disturbances will pass across the high plains Sunday into Monday and again Wednesday. Instability will be marginal at best and limited to extreme western Kansas. Therefore, any chance for rain will be confined to the far west and even there the chances for significant rains are less than 10%. The grand ensemble shows chances for .1" or greater of rain in a 24 period are close to zero through Wednesday and don`t reach 10% until late next week. The bottom line is that significant rains are not expected across southwestern and central Kansas for at least the next week.
As far as temperatures are concerned, no major cold frontal boundaries are expected over the next week. As a result, expect temperatures to be near to a little above seasonal averages. The means that lows will be primarily in the mid 50s to lower 60s, with highs mostly in the 80s. However, as the mid level flow becomes more zonal late next week, weak downslope warming could propel afternoon readings into the lower 90s on one or two days.
