Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 124 AM EDT Fri Sep 12 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will maintain dry conditions into the weekend with warm sunny days and cool nights with patchy frost across the north. A weak system slides southeast out of Canada Saturday night and Sunday bringing slight chances for showers. Wetting rainfall is unlikely. High pressure returns Monday and will remain in control through the middle of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... High pressure builds in today in the wake of a cold front. Mostly sunny skies are expected high temperatures in the lower to mid 70s. An afternoon seabreeze is expected.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Fair weather continues tonight. A weak short wave trough passes through but will only be accompanied but an increase in mid and high level clouds. Low temperatures will be high enough to preclude frost advisory headlines. On Friday, fair weather with slightly above normal conditions are expected.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Evening Long Term Update...No large change in guidance for this update. Sunday disturbance remains weak with little synoptic supporters for more than a tenth of an inch of precip. A couple locations in southern NH could pick up this amount w/ daytime instability, but deeper moisture is well outside of the region. With expected surface high pressure in the region Mon- Tues, did trend Mon night temperatures lower.

Previously... The upper jet will largely remain north across Canada through the long term period resulting in slow moving and poorly organized mid level features over the CONUS. A splitting trough will cross Quebec this weekend that will bring slight chances for showers into Sunday. Surface high pressure then builds in Monday and likely keeps the forecast area dry through the middle of next week.

Chances for showers will increase into Sunday. Forcing will be weak with the splitting trough so appreciable rain is not expected with PoPs topping out at 20 percent. Highs on Sunday will generally be in the 70s.

High pressure builds in from the northwest Monday and will generally hold over the Northeast through Wednesday. This will allow for warm sunny days and cool nights. An upper low over the Southeast will drift northward the second half of the week and may spread moisture into the region while there is little to no signal for a widespread wetting rain on the horizon.

&&

.AVIATION /04Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... Short Term...VFR conditions are expected through Saturday other than late night and early morning valley fog.

Long Term...Mainly VFR through the period. The exception will be the potential for nighttime valley fog most nights that could bring restrictions to KLEB and KHIE.

&&

.MARINE... Short Term...Winds and seas will remain below SCA thresholds.

Long Term...Winds and seas will remain below SCA thresholds. A weak system crossing southeast Canada will bring an increase in south to southwest flow into Sunday while gusts will only top out around 20 kts.
