.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) Patchy fog cannot be ruled out in the valleys overnight but confidence is lower compared with this morning.

2) Warmer and mainly dry weather are expected into Sunday.

3) A cold front may deliver thunderstorm chances Sunday evening followed by gusty west to northwest winds on Monday.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Upper ridging over the weekend will help guide a warmer and mainly dry pattern across the region. Highs on Sunday may push mid and upper 80s before the next cold front arrives. The cold front will bring increased thunderstorm chances late Sunday during the evening hours at night, especially over central and southern Montana.

For Monday, post-frontal cold air advection looks to support gusty west to northwest winds developing over the area. Future shifts may need to consider the Lake Wind Advisory for Fort Peck Lake. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: NBM was used to populate the forecast this time around with little deviation. HREF and/or NBM90 may need to be considered to nudge winds for Monday given the post-frontal environment expected to take hold. Confidence is at or above average for this forecast cycle with NBM capturing expected trends rather well for now.

.AVIATION...

UPDATE: 2015Z, September 19th

FLIGHT CAT RANGE:VFR.

DISCUSSION: Mainly clear skies overnight and light winds will allow VFR conditions over area terminals. That said, look for small chances for patchy fog once again for valley locations, especially in eastern areas. Confidence in this however is far lower than average.

WIND: South to southeast continuing at 5 to 15 kts.

EQUIPMENT: Comms issues with the KSDY observation remain. AMD NOT SKED will remain in place until METARs are available.
